Welcome to the third installment of “new music to me” (prev here).

Sword II - Even if it’s Just a Dream

Sword II’s album Electric Hour is a wonderful mishmash of its influences without being repetitive. Sludgy at times, melodic and sweet at others. I’m very sad to have missed their tour with feeble little horse, but I hope they tour again soon.

For fans of: Alex G, MGMT, Sonic Youth

Tim Maia - Do Your Thing, Behave Yourself

Tim Maia, hailing from the MPB tradition, cranks up the soul and funk influence in Tim Maia 1973, incorporating folk and samba to deliver an album with an irresistible groove. Tim’s heartfelt vocals are a constant as the album’s varied influences pass the baton between tracks, filling the gradient from energetic and lively to soulful and somber.

For fans of: Lô Borges, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone

starbelliedbug - crayola car

crayola car is the first song off of starbelliedbug’s first EP, Lash. The soft dreamy vocals alternately lead and blend into the wall of sound on this introspective and noisy EP.

For fans of: Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Deftones
